COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This course includes painting with various tools such as palette knives and hands. There will be discussions regarding landscape, figurative and non-objective reference material covered moving towards more painterly abstraction.
Students may work on individual projects.
The instructor provides a safe environment for experimentation.
Information is provided about art shows, magazines and DVD's.
A list of optional materials is provided.
MATERIALS TO BRING: It is not necessary to have all of these supplies for the first class. Bring what you can.
Small sketchbook and sketching pens. Pencils and assorted erasers.
Large solid water container with handle (4 litre size).
Latex or non-latex gloves.
Barrier cream for skin protection (optional).
Absorbent paper towels.
Small colour wheel (optional).
2 plastic shower liners or tablecloths - (for table and floor under table).
Painting apron or smock.
Package of baby wipes for quick clean-ups.
Murphy`s Oil Soap for cleaning brushes.
Favourite brushes – a few cheap synthetic brushes from hardware store – 1 inch, 2 inch, 3 inch.
Smaller brushes for detail – one flat, one round – not too small.
Large palette paper or Styrofoam meat trays to use and toss.
Small spray bottle for misting paints.
Two medium-sized palette knives – one pointed tip for paint application; one oval tip with spring for mixing paint.
Liquitex Glazing Medium – medium size – up to 946 ml or half this size.
Jars of paint are preferable. Bring large tubes if you have them.
Most brands are acceptable. Rheotech is the least recommended of student quality brands.
Liquitex and Golden are very good brands. Buy what you can afford.
Colours: Primary red /primary blue /primary yellow /Black /White
Optional: a second colour of red, blue, and yellow. Good to have both a cool and a warm red, blue and yellow and any other favorite colours.
White gesso; black gesso
Various sizes and shapes of canvases – smallest 11 inches by 15 inches; largest 36 inches in any direction
If working on paper, bring full sheets – at least 200 pounds in weight. (for example, Curry`s 200 lb. Water colour paper). 300 lb. Paper if you wish (expensive but useful for heavy application of paint).

DISCOUNTS: For registrations paid 4 weeks prior to the start date of any courses offered by Beaux-Arts Brampton you get a $10.00 discount on the fee. (*Does not apply to classes offered by independent instructors) Seniors & Beaux-Arts Members get a $10.00 discount on all Beaux-Arts run classes. Your place in the class is not reserved until your payment is received.
CANCELLATIONS & REFUNDS: In the event the minimum enrollment is not achieved 14 days prior to the start date of the class, the class may be cancelled and your payment fully refunded. Every effort will be made to reschedule the class at a later date. There are no refunds for no show participants.
WITHDRAWALS: If you wish to withdraw from the program, your fee minus a $25.00 Administration Charge will be refunded only if requested in writing at least 14 days prior to the start day of the class.
