Gwen Tooth has studied several disciplines with many great teachers of painting, printmaking, book arts and textile arts. Gwen is currently revisiting clay sculpture and tapestry weaving. In addition, she continually experiments with new approaches to abstract expressive acrylic painting.
She credits Graham Coughtry, a Canadian painter, for encouraging her to paint what she feels in her own style which is a blend of expressionism and Fauvism. She seeks out instructors across Canada and the U.S. to expand her repertoire for teaching art.
Gwen teaches classes in contemporary expressive drawing, collage and bold expressive acrylics – approaches to abstraction. Locations include Beaux-Arts Brampton, Visual Arts Mississauga, Williams Mill, Franklin Carmichael Art Group and Southampton Art School.
Gwen is currently painting with acrylics. She exhibits her paintings regularly in both solo and group venues. Her previous shows at Beaux-Arts Brampton include a solo show called “Rhythms of the Sea” in 2009; “Fauvist Style Portraits and Figures” in the “Art Cove” 2010; “Rhythms of the Sea II” 2010; “Women in Abstraction” 2011; and “Contemporary Drawings – or are they Paintings?” 2011.
Gwen studied at Humber College, and Ontario College of Art and Design University, completing her Diploma in 1995 and Bachelor of Fine Arts in 2005.
